The Primary Care Extender, Physician Assistant, in the Southwest Medical Associates clinics has documented clinical practice experience to assess patients of various age groups and has the ability to diagnose, create treatment plans and prescibe medications as related to the treatment plan. The extender develops plans in collaboration with a physician to achieve the best health outcomes for the patient in their primary care team.

Responsibilities for Primary Care Physician Assistants include:

Rapidly formulate a differential diagnosis from assessments conducted within the clinic setting

Develop and implement treatment p! lans for patients assigned within the primary care team.
Develop and actualize plans for the primary care team as assigned

Provide guidance to nursing personnel towards treatment plans and care issues.

Documents treatment plans in the medical record.

Documents collaborative guidance from the physician as needed.

Coordination of care for patients

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
National Physician Assistant certification

Licensure in the State where this position is based or ability to obtain

Minimum six months documented clinical practice experience either in previous patient care settings or through mentorship program with Southwest Medical Associates.

Intermediate level of technical proficiency in the use of computer programs for medical records or internet search for clinical practice.

Preferred Assets:
Strong acute care experience in a primary care clinic, urgent care, or retail clinic

Ability to f! ormulate a differential diagnosis.

Proficieny in assessment and development of treatment plans.

Ability to conceptualize the needs for the team or department and actualize plans for implementation.

Empowered to develop plans of action and gain team consensus towards common goals.

A background in managed care

Familiarity with ICD-9 coding
