Pharmacy Intern
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures, and accrediting body standards. Communicates effectively and politely with patients and other members of the healthcare team within the intern's scope of practice. Interprets and evaluates prescription orders. Maintains the pharmacy environment and compounding room in an orderly manner. Select items in processing patient orders and warehouse transfers. Type prescription labels accurately, efficiently and with all information required by law. Compounds parenteral solutions aseptically, efficiently and in a timely fashion. Obtains a final check by the pharmacist in compounding and filling prescriptions. Initiates patient dispensing records, packing slips and statements. Obtains laboratory results as directed. Obtains patient medication histories as directed. Restocks the compounding room on an as needed basis. Checks for drug outdates when requested. Assists in performing quarterly physical inventory. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
As required per state(s) practice law. Current pharmacy intern registration permit. Should be familiar with a variety of word-processing, data base and spreadsheet programs and have the ability to learn customized company software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to mix drugs, use computer and other equipment and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
