Funding for this position is between a minimum of $20.02 and maximum of $21.64 an hour.

Why does the job exist?

This position is to assist the constituents of New Mexico and surrounding States by answering phone calls and providing the best customer service possible. This position will help Constituents calling into the Motor Vehicle Division Call Center for assistance in researching citations as well as to make payments for citations, running American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) inquires for driver licenses and further research AAMVA holds, process and renew registrations, review payments made for drivers and vehicles, review emission suspensions and insurance suspensions.

How does it get done?

This position will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Answer phones from the public and private entities
  • Process drivers license, citation payments, registering vehicle and trailers, to include numerous other types of transactions
  • May perform Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections
  • Performance shall be measured on criteria that is job and outcome related with a minimum of 80 transactions a day completed based on volume, complexity, and system capabilities
  • Assist customers in all motor vehicle related transactions

This position is expected to uphold excellence in customer service as Motor Vehicle offices are most often the citizen's first experience with state government in New Mexico.

This position's responsibility goes beyond customer service duties. This position is trained on complex transactions regarding issuance of federally compliant credentials, ownership documents on titles, reinstatement and suspension of credentials, and issuances of medical denials and concerns to name the most common transactions. This requires understanding, interpretation, and implementation of federal law, state statutes and administrative code. Each transaction processed by this position requires extensive understanding of the parameters that allow to get the credential needed so that this position can skillfully relay the information back to our customers.

Minimum Qualification

High school diploma or GED and six (6) months of general office, clerical and/or administrative.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. High pressure/stress situations. Some travel may be required.
