Location: Boulder City Nevada

Provides professional nursing care within the Emergency Department and coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must ! be able to work under sustained pressure and during stressful situations. Must be able to stand or walk for 12-hours. Must be able to lift and move patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department are as follows:

1. Provide direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

2. Ability to perform a head to toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and the general patient population.

3. Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interprets the results.

4. Accurately assigns triage categories.

5. Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of c! hanges.

6. Treat patients and their families with res! pect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as liaison between administrators, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.

7. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.

8. Participates in QM and safety activities for their work environment.

9. Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves them in the formation of the plan of care.

10. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning including family teaching, as appropriate.

11. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct a! dministration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.

12. Prepares, hangs, initiates, monitors and discontinues IV fluids.

13. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

14. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with Hospital standards.

15. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and the proper functioning of equipment.

16. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

17. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintains good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.

18. Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignment as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.

19. Demonstrates the abi! lity to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department. !

20. Assists the Acute Care Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement safety indicators to improve patient outcomes and the work environment.

21. Orients new employees to the Emergency Department.

22. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops, shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.

23. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities necessary for the position.

2. Language Skills â€" Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or g! overnment regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.

3. Mathematical Skills â€" Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dosages, percents, proportions, area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

4. Reasoning Ability â€" Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

5. Supports philosophy, objectives and goals of the Emergency department.

6. Performs within limits of State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, hospital policies and procedures.

7. Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, specialty areas, orientation and teaching of staff.

8. Strives for excellence in patient care and, as necessary, challenges and/or corrects ! errors of peers to ensure patient safety and well being.

9. Ac! countable for own conduct and promotes good work relationships among staff and between other disciplines and departments.

10. Participates in, and supports research programs and activities; also participates in nursing committees and other activities which promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care.

11. Able to pass high efficiency respirator fit and use program as required by OSHA, Vol. 58, No. 195.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with one year of Emergency or Intensive Care nursing.

2. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

3. Current ACLS certification.

4. Current PALS certification.

5. Current BLS certification.
