Skills (Project CERTIFIES) at UNC Charlotte Cato College of Education provides an enhanced, targeted early clinical experience to Teacher Candidates (TCs) in an evidence-based practice (EBP) in reading as TCs conduct the EBP with K-5 students requiring foundational reading skill intervention with coaching support.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Skills (Project CERTIFIES) at UNC Charlotte Cato College of Education provides an enhanced, targeted early clinical experience to Teacher Candidates (TCs) in an evidence-based practice (EBP) in reading as TCs conduct the EBP with K-5 students requiring foundational reading skill intervention with coaching support. The Co-Director will contribute to all aspects of UNC Charlotte’s work. The Co-Director will partner in close collaboration with the project’s principal investigator.

The main duties of the Co-Director will include:
- Lead school and participant recruitment and project coordination efforts. This will include making school and district contacts and coordinating work with our partners at each participating school across semesters.
- Support reading intervention and training material preparation
- Lead and organize assessment of participating K-5 students
- Train and coach undergraduate implementing the reading intervention
- Train and support graduate research assistants
- Collect and organize outcome data from undergraduate post experience
- Lead weekly team meetings to give updates on task completion and next steps
- Disseminate project products and outcome data at local, state and national levels.
Other Work Responsibilities
- Lead one of the two schools sites during the tutoring time across each semester.
- Coordinate the recruitment of students at partner schools.
- Develop and lead the training of TCs and graduate research assistants.
- Conduct outreach and site visit activities with schools, maintaining communication with those school partners weekly.
- Coordinate and support data collection at provider sites to ensure fidelity of implementation at the student level.
- Support the dissemination of project products (e.g., newsletters) and outcomes (e.g., school reports).
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- ABD or Doctorate in the field of Reading/Literacy Education, Special Education or other area in the field of general education, school counseling, or educational psychology.
- One year minimum experience in working with school districts and/or community service providers.
- One year minimum experience in data collection at the school, district, and/or state levels.
- One year minimum experience in evidence-based reading intervention implementation and coaching.
- Experience in collaborating with school personnel to facilitate intervention implementation and monitoring data collection processes.
- Experience in providing professional development to schools/districts/states to support implementation of evidence-based practices in reading.
- Experience in conducting experimental research.
