Job Summary:
The Cytotechnologist will be responsible for examining cells and tissues under a microscope to identify pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. They will work closely with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely diagnoses to aid in patient treatment and management.
Responsibilities:
- Perform microscopic examinations of cells and tissues to detect abnormalities and identify cancerous or pre-cancerous cells.
- Prepare and analyze cytology samples, including fine needle aspiration (FNA), Pap smears, and other types of specimens.
- Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and communicate results to pathologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes and image analysis systems.
- Assist with the development and validation of new laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Maintain laboratory safety standards and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuing education activities to stay up-to-date with new developments in cytology.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cytology or related field.
- Strong laboratory skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of cytology techniques, including Pap smear and FNA preparation and interpretation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred:
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or equivalent.
- Experience with digital imaging and image analysis systems.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
