The incumbent is assigned to the Office of Nursing Service(ONS) and is accountable administratively and clinically for nursing practice to the Associate Director for the Patient Care/Nurse Executive through Deputy Chief Nurse/Inpatient. The RN, Clinical Coordinator functions as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team and is responsible for the overall over! sight of all patient care units on their scheduled tour.

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the overall patient flow of all patient care units and patient bed assignments (admissions, discharges, and transfers).

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship.

Full unrestricted licensure, certification, or registration.

Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience

Recent experience in Med/Surg, ICU, and/or ER nursing

AHA approved ACLS,BLS and Certifications as applicable

English language proficiency required.

DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:

Manage the overall patient flow of all ! patient units and bed assignments (admissions, discharges, & transfers)! · Plan, organize, lead, implement, and evaluate the quality of nursing care on all patient care units. This may require minimal care to life-support measures; patient, family, and significant other education · Analyze problems in the delivery of patient care, develop corrective actions to expedite care

·

Assure optimum utilization of available resources and maintain a climate conductive to high quality patient care and employee's/ patient satisfaction.

·

S/He provides oversight in the care of others relative to continuity of care considering developmental

·

Stage, cultural, economic and social differences among patient populations.

·

S/he will monitor hospital resources and will determine when to place the facility on divert status when necessary.

·

Support appropriate referral and discharge planning, and knowledge of legal implications.

·

Demonstrates compet! ence in management and supervision, utilization of the nursing process, interpersonal skills, resource utilization, sound decision-making, and functions with high degree of self-direction.

Supports staff professional growth through the delivery of evidence based in-service education

·

S/He will manage safe staffing levels for all patient units during times of unplanned leave requests (i.e. sick leave)

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • This Registered Nurse (RN) is a graduate of a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of nursing and meets Veterans Affairs (VA) professional and physical requirements as set forth in Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Handbook
5005, and VA Directive 5102.1 dated March 27, 2009.

  • Current, unrestricted nursing license from any of the 50 states, or territory or commonw! ealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
  • Masters degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • 3-5 Years recent experience as an ICU, Medical -surgical, or Emergency Department nurse with progressive managerial experience/ responsibility (ie. Charge Nurse)

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB) in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing:

Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry.

Nurse I Level I

  • An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II

  • An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III

  • An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II

  • A BSN with approximately 2-3 y! ears of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree! in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III

  • Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
