GENERAL PURPOSE: To provide quality patient care services as directed by supervisor in a courteous manner, thoroughly explaining each procedure to the patient before beginning and helping to prov! ide a pleasant, comfortable, positive atmosphere for the patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments. Ability to lift, walk, carry and stand.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: To perform nursing procedures as instructed by supervisor. Ability to pass high efficiency respiratory fit and use program as required by OSHA, Volume 58, No. 195.
1. The following procedures may include, but are not limited to:
- Proper handwashing techniques
- Making of unoccupied and occupied bed
- Bathing â" bed, tub, shower and Arjo bathing unit
- Temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
- Preparing patient for meals
- Passing trays
- Feeding patients
- Serving nourishments and record
- Observe and record food and fluid intake and output
- Record ! percentage of food eaten by patient
- Use of assistive ! feeding devices
- Passing of fresh water
- Nail care, except diabetic patients
- Back rubs
- Give and remove bedpans and urinals
- Escort patients to and from activities
- Principles of good body mechanics
- Correct positioning and alignment of patient
- Prevention and care of contractures and deformities
- Moving of patients in bed
- Transfers, bed to chair, chair to tub and chair to toilet
- Routine ambulation
- Prevention and care of pressure sores
- Principles and application of routine R.O.M.âs
- Bowel and bladder re-training and recording
- Cleaning of patient care equipment
- Weekly summaries charting of ADLâs, if indicated by change of patient status
- Isolation techniques
- Weight taking and recording height measurement and recording
- Recording of patient personal inventory list
3. To participate in and satisfactorily complete the orientation program and Annual Review Day.
4. To attend inservices and meetings, as required, to maintain CNA certification.
5. To document all care given and patient observations.
6. To report to supervisor immediately when observing any unusual or significant change(s) in a patientâs physical or behavioral condition.
7. To ask supervisor when unsure of assignment or procedure.
8. Reports on and off duty to the nurse in charge when leaving or returning to the unit.
9. Admits, transfers, discharges patients conducting tasks allowed by hospital policy.
10. Answers call lights for own and othersâ assignments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. Current Nevada Licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Nevada.
2. Current BLS Certification.
3. Able to fol! low oral and written instructions and write simple records under superv! ision.
4. Understands the need for confidentiality of information gained while performing the job.
OTHER LONG TERM CARE RESPONSIBILITIES TO OBSERVE:
1. Linen carts â" on same side of the hall as other items
2. Plastic bags on linen cart for trash
3. All soiled linen and trash in soiled utility room when trays are on the floor
4. No linen or trash on the floor
5. Your immediate supervisor is your RN or LPN team leader
Universal Precautions:
1. Sleeping on duty is not permitted and will be addressed by your immediate supervisor
2. Acrylic or long nails are not permitted and will be addressed by your immediate supervisor
3. Long hair must be tied back. Failure to do so will be addressed by your immediate supervisor
4. Inappropriate attire per personnel policies is subject to being sent home
5. The Residents who live here are NOT patients; our purpose is to ! serve them with dignity and respect. This is their home!
6. Eating or drinking while feeling residents in the dining room is not permitted â" at this point Friday lunch is an exception, but will be monitored. This is a time to be enjoyed by resident, families and staff, but the resident must always be our first consideration
7. While we all have specific assignments and duties, these are âour residentsâ. Call lights are to be answered by one and all, and residentâs needs are to be met by the first available employee.
8. All employees are to maintain professional and courteous behavior and appearance at all times (with residents, family and co-workers)
9. Licensed nurses will make daily assignments and you are expected to follow them. If you have a concern about your assignment, you must discuss it with your immediate supervisor. Refusal to accept an assignment will be addressed by your immediate supervisor.
