The Veteran Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) has a vacancy for an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Behavioral Health Care line Outpatient Services.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) practices in the Behavioral Health Care Line setting in Las Vegas. The APRN is academically and clinically prepared to perform a broad spectrum of patient care services at the expert level. APRNs are classified as Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIPS) who are granted clinical privileges to practice autonomously with consultation as necessary. The APRN provides primary care to adults in the area of their clinical specialization. The APRN works collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members in providing quality care and resident education, participating in research activities, and assisting patients in acute and chronic rehabilitation techniques.
We are pleased and excited to announce the current construction of four super primary clinics which are scheduled to be operational in 2012, and state of the art medical center, which is scheduled to be operational in 2013. The medical center, which will be in North Las Vegas, will feature in-patient and ambulatory care and on site community living center (CLC).
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care
ACLS,BLS,PALS and specialty certifications as applicable to the position
Demonstrate excellent customer service
1-2 Years experience as a mental health APN
DUTIES:
The Advance Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced education and experience who cares for a specific population of patients in a variety of settings. He/she provides a unique approach to healthcare that allows the incorporation of traditional nursing skills as well as advanced practice skills in the care of patients ranging from young adulthood to geriatrics. These skills enable the Nurse Practitioner to anticipate and implement preventive measures with strong emphasis on patients/significant other/family education as well as illness management of primary care and specialty care. The incumbent incorporates veteran age, gender, culture, and learning abilities in the plan of care.
- Functions as a primary care provider.
- Oversees care provided to patients in the Mental Health Clinic.
- Identifies the patientÂ's medical problems, defining the medical management of these problems, and determining the need for consultation.
- Consults, collaborates with the Mental Health Medical Physician and other team members.
- Maintains oversight and responsibility for professional practice issues, including appropriate licensure and certification.
- Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex care for patients receiving acre through the Mental Health Clinic.
- Complies with VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System Clinical Practice Guidelines and Clinical Reminder Alerts within the APN scope of assignment.
- Maintains programmatic responsibility for the VA nursing staff, services, and or processes within specified area(s) of assignment.
- Provides coverage for other NP positions in the Mental Health Clinic.
1) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency
and accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or
the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
(2) Master's degree in nursing (Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner program) in the
specialty area from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program is required .
(3) National certification as APRN by the American Nurses Association, SNCC, AANP or ANCC
(American Nurses Credentialing Center) is required.
(4) Listed on Practice Registry authorizing use of APRN designation.
(5) Prescriptive Authority.
(6) Required Experience:One to two years recent clinical experience as a Mental
Health provider with demonstrated clinical skill in primary care and mental health
management.
(7) One to two years APN experience as a generalist in behavioral health care.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced Practice Register Nurses (APRN). On an after [March 17, 2009], registered nurses appointed or otherwise moving into these assignments must meet and maintain the following additional qualifications. This includes employees appointed before [March 17, 2009], who obtain such qualifications on or after [March 17, 2009]. An APRN must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a state, possess a masterÂ's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. {The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.] Nurse Practitioner certification must be in Adult or Family Advance Practice Registered Nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center: http;//www.nursecredentialing.org/cert/eligibility/adm.html or AANP
- Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB) in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry.
- Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
