Under the direction of the Director of Facility Services, directs all aspects of the Plant Operations department. Responsible for all aspects of facility equipment, including preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, training, integration and energy management. Participates in pre- and post-purchase evaluations of all facility equipment for the Hospital.

Nature and Scope:
This position is challenged to manage the installation, replacement, daily operations and preventive maintenance of highly sophisticated equipment and systems in the rapidly changing field of Plant Operations, electronics and computer technology for the highest degree of safety for patients and staff obtainable.

This position will develop and implement an energy utilization strategy.

This position will provide timely operational updates and long-range utility planning to the Director of Facility Services.

This position will co-ordinate the energy management initiatives.

This position advises department heads, unit managers, directors, and administrators of departments utilizing both plant and medical equipment.

The incumbent negotiates with, consults with, and advises external contacts including medical staff, outside clients and vendors of equipment.

The incumbent has the authority to establish priorities for preventive maintenance of equipment and repair, new equipment and systems installations; determine levels of inventory, schedule and conduct in-services; and to approve service contracts.

As needed, the incumbent will perform or assist with the completion of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.

The incumbent trains medical staff including nurses and therapists regarding the use of required plant equipment.

The incumbent is often required to perform other related duties and work beyond a normal day.

The incumbent has the authority to hire, counsel, and discipline subordinates.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of Renown Health and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Communication, management, and inter-personal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of NFPA, JCAHO, AHA, and FDA regulations as pertaining to medical equipment and systems in health care facilities.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations as affecting installation of these systems and components.
  • Problem solving skills to handle unusual occurrences involving equipment related problems
  • Goal oriented with strong emphasis on intra-department cooperation with other directors and managers.
  • Total dedication to safety for patients and staff through an effective, documented preventive maintenance program.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Requires completion of trade school or formal apprenticeship program in trades of electrical, HVAC or plumbing.

Experience:
At least five years experience in a hospital setting of plant and utilities management or construction.

License(s):
Valid City of Reno Journeyman or Maintenance Electrician License preferred. Valid driver’s license

Certification(s):
Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
